2nd Prize. National ideas competition for the rehabilitation of a 9 dwelling building in Avilés, Asturias.  

The purpose of the contest is the rehabilitation or construction of the Teahers’ housing building and the ordering of its plot, located in Plaza Fray Junípero Serra, in the La Luz neighbourhood of Avilés. The project is part of the integrated sustainable urban development program, to achieve a physical rejuvenation of the neighbourhood.

This building will house 9 rental homes – 3 with one bedroom, 4 with two bedrooms and 2 with three bedrooms- a local for neighbourhood associations, and 9 storage rooms (one per home). The layout of the houses has been modified to adapt them to the current needs of the contemporary world, with larger and more open spaces that improve living conditions.

The proposed intervention, not only solves the main current problem of the building, improves its accessibility and energy efficiency, but also provides a new image for the neighbourhood, which adapts and dialogues with the existing environment, without breaking the strong geometry of the surrounding blocks.
